High concept design with low-tech components. These paper lanterns originate in India. When lit, they glow from within like a stained glass lantern. In reality they are just made of paper.
Each star is a masterpiece of engineering and design. It all begins with a piece of medium weight cardstock that is printed and then punched out with designs like stars, circles or paisleys.
Next, precise triangular shapes are cut from the master sheet for assembly. Before the actual star assembly begins, and artisan cuts small pieces of tissue paper and meticulously glues them, one by one, to the reverse side of the cardstock, on the opposite side of the printing.
Finally, the cardstock triangles are individually glued together to form a collapsable triangle of repeating "leaves." When opened, each "leaf" becomes a leg of the star. The whole piece is held in the open position by a string that when tied, pulls the two ends together.
